The perception of the Unified Field of Adaptive Systems

Businesses are a paradigmatic Human Complex Adaptive System that needs to be managed as a Unified Field. This is the field of complexity sciences.

Perceiving the unified field requires observing the active function, perceiving the energy conservation function, intuiting the implicit purpose and finally validating through destructive and non destructive pilot tests.

Every reality, considered as an adaptive system from a functional point of view, has a unique essential structure.

 

The unicist approach deals with reality considered as a unified field. This unified field is defined by the extrinsic and intrinsic concepts that have been discovered.

These unicist concepts are the unicist ontology that defines and regulates the nature of the entity that is being dealt with. This unified field is defined by a credibility zone when we deal with extrinsic concepts and by a functionality zone when dealing with intrinsic concepts.

The credibility or functionality zone behaves like a “micro-cosmos”.

Every being can be described by the three principles and functions that define it. It has a purpose, an action principle and an energy conservation principle. These three elements are integrated in its oneness considering a specific functionality in the environment.

The Unicist Ontology of Biological Entities

The unicist ontology of a “biological entity” defines its structure and functionality in an environment.

The genotype defines the genetic structure of the entity that rules its evolution and generates the phenotype of the being.

The objective of the genotype is to ensure the permanence of species, it reproduction and production.

The phenotype defines the morphologic, behavioral and materialistic characteristics of the entity.

It defines the functional characteristics, the functional power of the entity and the functional assurance.

Functionality defines the effectiveness of the phenotype measured as the consequence of the adaptation of the biological entity to the environment.

Functionality is measured in the capacity of adapting and growing on the one hand, and surviving, on the other hand.

The understanding of the ontology of “biological entities” helps to follow the laws of nature when dealing with genetic engineering processes and use it to apprehend the nature of beings with “artificial life” such as institutions.

Valid ontologies need to emulate the structure of nature

Ontological approaches are necessary to deal with complex systems. They are now a trend in the world to deal with complexity.

Albert Einstein said: God does not play dice with the universe. We strongly suggest accepting that any approach to ontology needs to emulate the structure of nature. That is what the unicist ontology is about. If not you are playing dice.

The risk of being fallacious when defining an ontology is enormous. It is naturally a projection of the individual unless that person has a conscious quality assurance system in mind. Ontologies by definition need to emulate the ontogenetic intelligence of nature.

Until this is accepted they are just hypothetical approaches having no logical foundations. Without emulating nature ontologies are just subjective projections and, when accepted as being true, they become a religious knowledge. But there are wise people who can approach nature intuitively.

Unicist ontologies were researched following the structure of the ontogenetic intelligence of nature having therefore reasonable, understandable and provable foundations.

Business expansion implies going beyond the present boundaries of markets. This requires generating added value in new fields.

35th Anniversary of The Unicist Research Institute

June 1976 was the beginning of the research of evolution in the field of complexity science. It was focused on approaching the nature of reality which required an ontological approach to the basic research and an object driven approach in the field of application.

The research drove to the discovery of the ontogenetic intelligence of nature, the unicist ontology, the unicist logic, the complexity science research methodology and the human ontointelligence.

This provided the basic knowledge to develop more than 3,500 applicative researches in the field of individual, institutional and social evolution that were finished until September 2010. The research work is still ongoing.

Possibilities for the growth of small businesses

All businesses have, depending on their positioning, natural fallacious myths they believe in. These fallacious myths cover weaknesses companies have but are unable to deal with.

That is why chronic diseases of institutions have to be considered as characteristics because they are protected by the fallacious myths they have developed. The universal fallacious myths of small companies are the “justifications”. All what they do is justified because they are what they are.

“Small is beautiful” has been a motto used to justify the incapacity for growth. The size has nothing to do with the revenue. What defines if it is a small company is its critical mass. There can be a leader in a niche market that, having low revenue measured in absolute terms, is not small. Small implies assuming no responsibility in a market.

Small is a business attitude. The justification to avoid growth can be found in the following fable:

A hound dog found a bone and held it tightly in his mouth. He growled and scowled at anyone who attempted to take it away. Off into the woods he went to bury his prize.
When he came to a stream, he trotted over the footbridge and happened to glance into the water. He saw his own reflection. Thinking it was another dog with a bigger bone, he growled and scowled at it. The reflection growled and scowled back.
“I’ll get THAT bone too,” thought the greedy dog, and he snapped his sharp teeth at the image in the water.
Alas, his own big bone fell with a splash, out of sight, the moment he opened his mouth to bite!

But why did the dog made the wrong decision?
Because instead of looking for bones in the market he was viewing his own illusion in the mirror.

Small companies’ growth implies a big change which means leaving things behind, investing to build a critical mass, and then collecting the growth.

Victoria’s Secret and Mc Donald’s are stories that demonstrate that businesses might be intrinsically expansive but the attitude of the owners is what defines if there is a possibility for growth when they are small.

Small businesses disappear naturally in crises or with their founders. They grow when they begin to fight for the bones that are “unavailable” in the market. The man in the mirror kills businesses.
