Adaptive System Management is a Complex Problem

When dealing with adaptive aspects of businesses it is necessary to be focused on solutions and not on problem solving. This sounds counterintuitive but only if a physician is able to cure a disease or a patient s/he will be able to diagnoses the problem. Solution thinking is the characteristics of individuals that are talented in a specific field.

“Complex problem solving requires an action-reflection-action process. This implies the involvement in the problem as a participant. Without this involvement there is no possibility to apprehend the ontological structure of the complex problem.

The learning of complex problem solving is implicitly a complex problem. Therefore the learning process requires the commitment of real problem solving adding value to the individual or organization dealing with the complex problem.

An individual cannot deal with complexity if s/he is not able to over-come the fears that are implicit in a complex problem solving process. The denial of these fears ensures the building of parallel realities and the achievement of dysfunctional results. 

Authoritarian environments foster fears to avoid losing control. Individualistic-anarchic environments foster fears to avoid the assumption of responsibilities. That is why complex problem solving and its learning process require a special context to be developed.”

The Critical Mass of Business Objects

Having a critical mass in business actions is a basic condition of every element that is used to influence human adaptive systems. Business objects follow this rule and need to have a critical mass in order to be inserted in work processes.

A business object works as a critical mass when it is able to produce the results that have been planned. To do so it has to be extremely aesthetic, fulfilling the needs of the environment, and having an absolute influence based on an extreme and synchronic added value within a context of full credibility.

Simplified: something has a critical mass in the business field when it is extremely aesthetic, has a high level of influential power and is fully credible.

The adaptive aspects of businesses need to be managed having critical mass in each action to avoid degrading the business by just developing over-adapted actions. The use of business objects, including entropy inhibitors and catalysts, allows making this possible.

Without the use of business objects the critical mass depends fully on the critical mass of the individuals who manage a business process. The Unicist Standard defines the aspects that need to exist in an object with critical mass.

Peter Belohlavek’s Lectures on Opening the Pandora Box of Social Evils

Social chronic problems need to be cured and not only palliated. Paradoxically, opening the “box” of these problems allows curing them while closing it only palliates them and increases their destructive power.

The discovery of the drivers of human attitudes and human intentions opened the possibilities of influencing the environment at an individual level to foster sustainable development and wellbeing. While the concepts individuals have drive their attitudes, their ethical intelligence defines their true intentions.

The world is in a transition stage in which many of the role models became reverted towards a “stagnant survivor” stage. In this context, the value adding attitude was substituted by a justified appropriation of value, using the necessary power to foster “survival” as a necessary attitude in society. This ended in a massive identification with the victims replacing a solidary behavior.

Human needs sustain their values and define their functional ethics. That is why it is necessary to open the Pandora Box to cure the influenceable environment instead of palliating it by closing the box.

35th Anniversary of The Unicist Research Institute

June 1976 was the beginning of the research of evolution in the field of complexity science. It was focused on approaching the nature of reality which required an ontological approach to the basic research and an object driven approach in the field of application.

The research drove to the discovery of the ontogenetic intelligence of nature, the unicist ontology, the unicist logic, the complexity science research methodology and the human ontointelligence.

This provided the basic knowledge to develop more than 3,500 applicative researches in the field of individual, institutional and social evolution that were finished until September 2010. The research work is still ongoing.

Possibilities for the growth of small businesses

All businesses have, depending on their positioning, natural fallacious myths they believe in. These fallacious myths cover weaknesses companies have but are unable to deal with.

That is why chronic diseases of institutions have to be considered as characteristics because they are protected by the fallacious myths they have developed. The universal fallacious myths of small companies are the “justifications”. All what they do is justified because they are what they are.

“Small is beautiful” has been a motto used to justify the incapacity for growth. The size has nothing to do with the revenue. What defines if it is a small company is its critical mass. There can be a leader in a niche market that, having low revenue measured in absolute terms, is not small. Small implies assuming no responsibility in a market.

Small is a business attitude. The justification to avoid growth can be found in the following fable:

A hound dog found a bone and held it tightly in his mouth. He growled and scowled at anyone who attempted to take it away. Off into the woods he went to bury his prize.
When he came to a stream, he trotted over the footbridge and happened to glance into the water. He saw his own reflection. Thinking it was another dog with a bigger bone, he growled and scowled at it. The reflection growled and scowled back.
“I’ll get THAT bone too,” thought the greedy dog, and he snapped his sharp teeth at the image in the water.
Alas, his own big bone fell with a splash, out of sight, the moment he opened his mouth to bite!

But why did the dog made the wrong decision?
Because instead of looking for bones in the market he was viewing his own illusion in the mirror.

Small companies’ growth implies a big change which means leaving things behind, investing to build a critical mass, and then collecting the growth.

Victoria’s Secret and Mc Donald’s are stories that demonstrate that businesses might be intrinsically expansive but the attitude of the owners is what defines if there is a possibility for growth when they are small.

Small businesses disappear naturally in crises or with their founders. They grow when they begin to fight for the bones that are “unavailable” in the market. The man in the mirror kills businesses.

Building Corporate Universities as Unicist Business Objects

In-company Corporate Universities are an extremely powerful business object to promote growth and measurable monetary results.

Originally, they were derived from academic and training activities providing know-how to the members of organizations. But some differentiated technological companies began to use them also to expand their businesses. Thus Corporate Universities began to work as business objects.

The Unicist Research Institute developed Corporate Universities as business objects, integrating the three objects that define their functionality:
1)    The driving object for know-how transfer
2)    The catalyzing object to accelerate actions in the market
3)    The gravitational object to structure authoritative differentiation in the market

Driving objects: Empirical approach

The gravitational Corporate Universities are built to provide essential knowledge to deal with the business.

They need to provide this knowledge in a way that the concepts dealt with become obvious and self-evident for the mass. They do not use benchmarks but metaphors to approach unknown fields.

They need to be developed in conceptual language in order to deal with the nature that underlies the business.

The lack of know-how defines the need for the driving function. This function becomes unnecessary as soon as the know-how has been acquired.

It has to be considered that innovation sustains the use of social catalysts and catalyzing objects. The catalyzing effect disappears when an innovation has been adopted by the environment. Therefore, catalysts need to be replaced when they are “worn out”.

Gravitational objects are stable because the essential aspects of businesses imply an endless discovering process.

Power and knowledge have an extremely conflictive relationship. That is why Corporate Universities are contraindicated for power centered businesses.

We want to remark that In-Company Corporate Universities designed as Business Objects have to be learning and not teaching centered.
